The Confident Writer
I help writers move from second-guessing and stuck to confident and finished.
Many creative writers turn to their writing practice to figure out what they actually think or believe, but their lack of trust in themselves means they never actually get to the finish line.
When you stay stuck, you:
spend your writing time reading and re-reading what you've already written, revising in circles, and not getting any closer to done.
Keep trying workshops, craft books, and writing groups that never move the needle, because you haven't yet found your voice as a writer or the confidence to say what you're really wanting to say.
start to believe you aren't really a writer, or that your story isn't worth telling, and worry you'll spend your life wondering what you might have said.
Your drafts stay drafts, and your voice doesn’t fully form.
My Own Becoming
I know what it’s like to feel stuck in your story. I grew up in a high-control religious community where I was told what to believe, who to be, and which parts of myself were allowed. I walked away from everything that was familiar at the age of twenty-one and began to rebuild my identity.
One thing that helped me process this transition was writing. I poured my pain into many journals and Google Docs, finding my way step by step with short essays, poems, and fragments to use in future projects. I found that writing extracted parts of me that nothing else could, and gradually, I found clarity in my thinking and my identity.
Now, I get to help other writers process their life experiences through the written word, untangling what they were taught from what they really believe. I witness them start to trust their own instincts and voice, speak what is true, and share their story with others.
Welcome to The Confident Writer
The Confident Writer is a four-month, 1:1 creative collaboration designed to help you move through writing blocks, gain clarity on what you're actually trying to say, and finally shape your ideas into work you're proud of.
If you're ready to:
Stop reworking the same draft without making progress
Trust your own instincts and quiet the inner critic
Turn a fragmented idea into something clear and finished
Share your voice, whether that's a Substack, an essay, or a finished book
Have fun with your writing again (and maybe get a little weird with it!)
then The Confident Writer is for you. Here's how it works.
What to Expect
An introductory Strategy Session. In our first 60 minutes together, we'll talk big picture: your project or creative goals, your core message, format options, and a writing schedule with milestones that work for you.
Twice-monthly Momentum Sessions. We'll meet every other week to check in on wins, work through anything that is interrupting your flow, and strengthen your writing through structural feedback, probing questions, and revision. The sessions will meet you wherever you are; we might work through self-doubt or untangle an idea, or perhaps we’ll shape a piece line by line.
Support between sessions. You'll have access to me between calls — I’ll respond within 24 hours —so you can keep making moves in your writing.
A continuation conversation at month four. We'll reflect on what's shifted and what's next, whether that's another round of The Confident Writer, single Momentum sessions, or something else.
Hi, I'm Meredith!
I've worked across the entire creative process — as a writer, editor, and coach — so I am well versed what it takes to move a piece from a rough idea to something finished. My approach combines craft skill (e.g. structure, language, editing) with attention to what's underneath the words because for my clients, writing is never just technical. It's tied to identity, healing, and self-understanding.
I bring particular depth to writers who are queer or who've left a high-control religion; not as an observer, but from my own experience. I understand what it's like to reconstruct a sense of self after being told who to be, and what it takes to trust your own voice again after suppressing it.
My curiosity about the people I work with is insatiable. My clients tell me I ask questions that dig deep, questions they’ve often never been asked before. Many work with me for long-term collaborations, often years, and I love witnessing the growth in their confidence and skill over that time.
If you're ready to grow your confidence as a writer, I'd love to work with you.
Meet Your Coach
The Commitment:
$500 / month* billed automatically on the 1st of each month.
*Four-month initial commitment required, as that's typically how long it takes for writers to see significant progress.
I work with a limited number of writers at a time, so every session, every check-in, and every question between calls gets my full focus.
Who The Confident Writer is For (And Not For!)
You're the right fit for The Confident Writer if:
You already have a rough draft, an idea, or a project you keep circling back to
You need structure, feedback, and collaboration
You're ready to show up consistently for four months
You want to build a sustainable, ongoing relationship with your writing, rather than just finishing a single piece
You're drawn to creative nonfiction: essays, memoir, Substack, poetry, or something in that territory
The Confident Writer may not be a good fit if:
You haven't started writing yet and aren't sure where to begin
You're not able to commit to consistent, twice-monthly sessions for at least four months
You're not open to feedback or revising your work
You're looking for a done-for-you ghostwriting or editing service

Frequently Asked Questions
Essays, memoir, Substack, poetry, and other creative nonfiction. If you're not sure your project fits, reach out and we can talk it through.
What kinds of writing do you work with?
What if I don't have a project yet, just an idea?
Do you work with beginners?
That's a great place to start. Our first Strategy Session is designed to help you get clear on direction from wherever you're starting. As long as you have a writing practice, you are all set to begin.
Some clients finish multiple projects in this time frame. Others use these four months to build momentum and continue on afterward. Regardless, their confidence grows and their overall relationship with writing improves.
Will I finish my project in four months?
Yes. What you share and write stays between us.
Is this confidential?
What's the difference between coaching and editing?
Do you work with clients outside of Bend, Oregon?
The Confident Writer is built for writers who already have some kind of practice, even if it is inconsistent. If you've never written before and aren't sure where to start, this may not be the right fit yet.
Editing focuses on polishing a piece that's mostly done. Writing coaching is ongoing collaboration throughout the entire creative process. I am by your side from beginning to end, supporting you in your writing no matter what comes up. I offer feedback on what you’re writing, help keep you accountable to your goals, and cheer you on all the way to the finish line.
Yes! All sessions are virtual, so you can work with me from anywhere.
